The Houston Texans have agreed a deal to sign former Miami Dolphins safety Chris Clemons, the team announced today.

Clemons started all 16 games for the Dolphins in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons, recording three interceptions and 191 tackles in that time.

The 28-year-old will be reunited with Texans director of pro personnel Brian Gaine in Houston after the duo were both with the Dolphins at the same time.

The two-year contract is reported to be worth $2.7m (£1.6m), including $450,000 (£270,000) in guaranteed money, an offer that could have an impact on fellow safety Danieal Manning.

Manning has reportedly been asked to take a pay cut in order to remain with the team, and it is understood that his revised salary would be similar to the deal for Clemons.
