The Houston Texans have reportedly named Ryan Mallett as their starting quarterback for their week two clash against the Carolina Panthers.
Brian Hoyer was selected to be the starter by head coach Bill O'Brien ahead of the 2015 campaign due to his performances over the course of training camp and pre-season.
However, the 29-year-old struggled immensely in his side's season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, turning the ball over twice in the Texans' 27-20 defeat at NRG Stadium.
Mallett replaced Hoyer for the fourth quarter and put in a solid display, which has earned him a promotion to the starting spot against the Panthers, reports NFL Network.
The 27-year-old threw for 98 yards and a touchdown in week one.
