Green Bay Packers edge heated clash with New York Jets

The Green Bay Packers hold on to a 31-24 win over the New York Jets in a heated meeting at Lambeau Field.

The Green Bay Packers came from behind to narrowly beat the New York Jets 31-24 in a heated meeting in the NFL at Lambeau Field this evening.

The Jets were quick out of the blocks, with Sheldon Richardson forcing a fumble from Aaron Rodgers to set Geno Smith up for a rushing touchdown to open the scoring.

Jeremy Kerley hauled in a deep pass to get the visitors into a position to double their advantage shortly after, allowing Smith to target Eric Decker for his first score since moving to the team.

Mason Crosby kept the scores close by making three field goals for the Packers, while the offense cut out their earlier mistakes to allow Randall Cobb into the endzone just seconds before half time.

Rodgers used Jordy Nelson to get the ball down field after the restart, setting up Cobb for his second score of the day, and the hosts went for a two-point conversion to put themselves a field goal clear.

However, players from both teams clashed in the end zone as the hosts forced their way over, resulting in New York's Muhammad Wilkerson being ejected for throwing several punches at the opposition.

Despite losing their defensive end for the remainder of the game, the Jets soon got back on level terms, with Nick Folk firing a 52-yard field goal through the posts.

The Packers were in the endzone again from the first play after the kickoff though, as Rodgers completed a short toss to Nelson before the wide receiver sprinted the length of the field for an 80-yard touchdown.

After a scoreless fourth quarter, Smith thought that he had done enough to tie the game in the closing seconds, firing a Hail Mary to Kerley at the back of the end zone, but confusion on the sideline resulted in the Jets calling a timeout before the quarterback made the pass, meaning that the touchdown was not awarded.
