Mike McCarthy relinquishes Green Bay Packers play-calling

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy reveals that he has decided to give up his play-calling duties for his team's offense after nine seasons in the role.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has revealed the reasons why he gave up his play-calling duties for the team's offense.

McCarthy has called the offensive plays for his team since arriving as the club's head coach in 2006, but will now hand the duty over to Tom Clements for the 2015 campaign, while Clements has also received a promotion from offensive coordinator to assistant head coach.

He told reporters: "I felt that the play-calling was something that I could still be able to do but the commitment you have to make Monday through Saturday, I didn't think it fit.

"I didn't think it would work as good as I know it will work now with Tom who's basically taking the responsibilities on offense that I've had in the past."

The Packers made several changes to their coaching staff following their loss in the NFC championship game, including sacking special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum.
