Demaryius Thomas designated with franchise tag by Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is given the franchise tag by the club, ensuring his stay with the AFC West outfit for the 2015 season.

Demaryius Thomas has been designated with the franchise tag by the Denver Broncos for the 2015 season.

The All-Pro was set to become one of the most coveted free agents on the market next week after he and the Broncos had yet to come to terms on a long-term contract.

However, the club have taken the measure to keep him at Sports Authority Field for the 2015 season on a deal worth $12.8m (£8.1m).

General manager John Elway told the club's official website: "This is another step in our efforts to extend Demaryius's contract and ensure he remains a Denver Bronco.

"We will continue working toward a long-term agreement with Demaryius, who is a very important part of our team."

Thomas has recorded 351 receptions for 5,317 yards along with 41 touchdowns in his five seasons with the Broncos.
