The Denver Broncos have released Elvis Dumervil after his agent failed to meet a deadline to fax a new contract to the team.
The defensive end agreed to take a $4m (£2.6m) paycut in order to remain with the AFC West champions for the 2013 season just hours before the deadline for teams to restructure contracts.
However, Marty Magid did not fax confirmation of the new agreement to the Broncos in time, meaning the Broncos waived him to avoid having to pay a higher salary.
Dumervil, who has since fired Magid, has already been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.
