Neck injury likely to end DeVonte Holloman's career

Dallas Cowboys second-year linebacker DeVonte Holloman may have to bring an early end to his NFL career following an injury to his neck picked up during pre-season.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeVonte Holloman is likely to have to hang up his boots following a neck injury.

Holloman recently picked up the dangerous knock late on during a pre-season fixture, with coach Jason Garrett suggesting that the player will probably have to call time on his career to ensure his own safety.

"I told him this morning, 'You're a 10-year player in my mind. You're going to play for a long, long time,'" said Garrett, according to ESPN.

"Just has everything that you want. Took advantage of his opportunity here last year whenever we gave it to him. And he has physical ability, he's tough, he's got instincts and feel for the game.

"But this becomes an easy decision for him and for his family when you're dealing with that kind of injury."

The new NFL season is due to get underway next month.
