Cleveland Browns confirm Kevin O'Connell hire

The Cleveland Browns announce that Kevin O'Connell has been appointed as their new quarterbacks coach following the departure of Dowell Loggains.

The Cleveland Browns have confirmed that they have hired Kevin O'Connell as their new quarterbacks coach.

The Browns were left without an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach when Kyle Shanahan and Dowell Loggains departed the club.

John DeFilippo replaced Shanahan as the coordinator, while the club have now moved to hand O'Connell his first coaching opportunity in the NFL to fill the role vacated by Loggains.

"Kevin has already shown a knack for individual teaching at a high level," head coach Mike Pettine told the club's official website.

"Our experience being around him makes us confident he will easily transition into being an extremely valuable member of our staff. He displayed knowledge of football schematics far beyond your typical player – even for a quarterback.

"The combination of personality and knowledge made it clear he would make an outstanding coach. He was outstanding in the interview and instantly fit in with our group of offensive coaches that sat in."

O'Connell played for the New England Patriots, the New York Jets and the San Diego Chargers in his five-year career in the NFL.
