Duke Williams keen to impress coaches during Jairus Byrd absence

Buffalo Bills safety Duke Williams hopes to impress the coaches during Jairus Byrd's absence.

Duke Williams has said that he hopes to take advantage of Jairus Byrd's absence from the Buffalo Bills' training camp to impress the team's coaches.

The safety is yet to attend the AFC East side's pre-season practices, having failed to agree a long-term contract with the team during the off-season.

Williams, who was picked by the Bills in the fourth round of this year's draft, told the team's official website: "You want to impress the coaches as much as you can before camp is over. Obviously in our situation, of course you want to impress the coaches as much as you can before [Byrd] gets here.

"I'm still not where I need to be whatsoever but as long as I keep working and keep watching film I should be working to get great. Working with Da'Norris [Searcy], I feel like we're going to have great confidence out there.

"All the guys have been following [Leodis McKelvin] and following his lead. He stepped up real critical in a situation with Byrd not here."

Williams made 106 tackles and an interception during his final year in college before entering the NFL draft.
