Buffalo Bills OC Greg Roman: 'EJ Manuel will not be released'

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman insists that the club have no plans to cut quarterback EJ Manuel in the near future.

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman has denied speculation that quarterback EJ Manuel could be released by the club.

The 25-year-old was selected in the first round of the 2013 Draft by the Bills, but he struggled for form in his rookie season which carried over into 2014, and as a result he was replaced as the starter by Kyle Orton.

Orton retired at the end of the last campaign, leaving the starter's job open at the AFC East side. However, the Bills opted to trade for veteran Matt Cassel to compete with Manuel for the role along with Tyrod Taylor.

Reports suggested that if Manuel failed to show progress in the off-season he would be cut by the team, which has been refuted by Roman.

"It couldn't be further from the truth," he told reporters.

The Bills' offensive coordinator also refused to confirm who the club's starter is at the position heading into their organised team activities.

Roman added: "I think it's too early to say there is a leader at QB right now."

Manuel has thrown for 2,810 yards and 16 touchdowns to 13 interceptions in his two seasons in the NFL.
