EJ Manuel relishing "fresh start" with Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel is looking forward to a "fresh start" at the club under Rex Ryan after an underwhelming first two seasons with the AFC East team.

Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel is relishing a "fresh start" at the club under new head coach Rex Ryan.

The AFC East side selected Manuel in the first round of the 2013 Draft, but the 25-year-old struggled with consistency in his rookie season due to injuries.

Manuel was then benched in his second season in favour of veteran Kyle Orton, who led the club to a 9-7 record, but following his retirement Manuel is confident that he can step up with more quality around him in the skill positions.

"It's a fresh start for me no doubt, I'm excited. I think it's a clean slate for myself," Manuel told reporters. "I think we have a great team around me and around this offense. I think we put a lot of pieces in the skill positions.

"Obviously we didn't want to lose CJ [Spiller], but we added a LeSean McCoy who is an excellent back. He can do multiple things, he can run, and he can catch. For me and my opportunity, I just see it as a great thing."

The 25-year-old has thrown for 2,810 yards and 16 touchdowns to 13 interceptions in his two seasons in the NFL.
