Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson has expressed his belief that he is worth more money than Seattle Seahawks counterpart Richard Sherman.
Sherman became the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL when he signed a new contract extension last week, while Peterson is currently undergoing negotiations of his own as the Cardinals look to tie him down to a long-term deal.
The 23-year-old is expected to use Sherman's salary as a tool in his contract wrangling, and he believes that cornerbacks deserve to be among the highest earners in the league.
When asked whether he was worth more than Sherman, Peterson told ESPN: "We'll see. Got to ask the Cardinals. I mean, I think I am but at the end of the day both sides have to agree to terms and we'll see what those terms are and hopefully sooner than later.
"I'm making OK money right now, but I'm just not making his money right now. I think cornerbacks are definitely worth the dollars that they get because now this league is a passing league.
"You need that shutdown corner to lock down one side of the field, or like myself, go out there the entire field."
Peterson currently has two years left on his rookie contract and, despite the ongoing talks, he is confident that his long-term future still lies in Arizona.
"I think I'll be here for a while. That's a definite guarantee, I'll be here for a while," he added.
Peterson made three interceptions in his 16 games for the Cardinals last season.
