Great Britain's Alex Yee finishes second to Hayden Wilde in the elite men's competition at the World Triathlon Championship Series in Abu Dhabi.

Great Britain's Alex Yee settled for the overall silver medal in the elite men's competition at the World Triathlon Championship Series following Saturday's finale in Abu Dhabi.

The Commonwealth Games champion could only place fourth in the final race of the competition with a time of 01:44:37, with France's Leo Bergere crossing the line first in 01:44:14.

Bergere's finale success was enough to see the 26-year-old take the overall title with 4741 points on the chart, as Lee posted a total of 4721 to win the silver.

"I just gave everything out there. I was really suffering with cramp on the second lap of the run and just didn't have it in the end," Yee told BBC Sport after the race.

"It's been an amazing year and when reflecting on that as the outcome of the year, I've been really proud of what I've achieved and second in the world is not bad."

New Zealand's Hayden Wilde - who led the way at the top prior to Saturday's race - could only finish sixth in Abu Dhabi as he claimed the overall bronze medal.

Yee takes home the silver after Georgia Taylor-Brown also settled for second place in the elite women's event behind four-time champion Flora Duffy.
