James Hook not expecting return to Wales squad

James Hook admits that he is not expecting to return to the Wales squad ahead of the World Cup.

Gloucester Rugby fly-half James Hook has admitted that he is not expecting to be included in the Wales squad for the World Cup later this year.

Hook has been handed just two starts by Warren Gatland since the 2011 tournament, and with Gareth Anscombe currently ahead of him in the pecking order, the 29-year-old is resigned to watching the team from home.

"I always hope, but it is out of my hands," Hook told Sky Sports News. "I have not had any contact or anything It has probably helped me because I have focused on Gloucester and not thought about Wales.

"I do hope I get a shout from Wales at some point, but it has not happened for a while and I am not expecting it. If it does happen, great, if not...

"I have taken the pressure off myself. I am not expecting anything to happen, and if it did, it would be a bonus."

Hook has won 77 caps for Wales.
