The International Rugby Board names the referees responsible for the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals stage.

The International Rugby Board has revealed the referees who are to take charge of the Rugby World Cup's knock out stages.

The appointments were made by the IRB's Match Official Selection Committee yesterday (Sunday) after a review of performances across the 40 pool stage matches.

Craig Joubert (South Africa) will preside over Wales v Ireland, Steve Walsh (Australia) will referee England v France, Bryce Lawrence (New Zealand) will oversee South Africa v Australia and Nigel Owens (Wales) will take charge of New Zealand v Argentina.

"Our focus has been firmly on consistency, penalising the clear and obvious and tackling the big five areas," said IRB Referee Manager Paddy O'Brien.

"The extensive performance review of all 40 matches included coach, match official and performance reviewer feedback and we are very happy with the way that the group has worked together to collectively achieve the goals set."

The quarter-finals stage kicks off with Wales v Ireland on Saturday, October 8.
