Mont de Marsan 6-11 Gloucester

Gloucester start their Amlin Challenge Cup campaign with a win thanks to a 11-6 victory over Mont de Marsan in France.

Gloucester have got their Amlin Challenge Cup campaign off to a winning start thanks to a 11-6 victory over Mont de Marsan in France.

The visitors led 5-0 at the break thanks to Ian Clarke's try and Tim Taylor made amends for missing the conversion when he kicked over a penalty 15 minutes into the second half.

Gloucester were reduced to 14 men soon after as Andy Hazell was sent off brawling with opposing players. The offence allowed Jean-Baptiste Claverie to kick the home side's first points of the match with the resulting penalty.

However, Billy Twelvetrees restored his team's eight-point gap thanks to a penalty just after the hour.

Mont de Marsan set up a nervy final five minutes when Claverie kicked over again, but Gloucester held on for the win.
