Marco Bortolami omitted from Italy's Rugby World Cup squad

Marco Bortolami misses the cut on Italy's 31-man Rugby World Cup squad, while Michele Visentin and Robert Barbieri are also overlooked.

Veteran lock Marco Bortolami has been left out of Italy's 31-man squad for next month's Rugby World Cup.

The 35-year-old has previously made 112 appearances for his country, making him the Azzurri's joint most-capped player alongside Sergio Parisse.

Michele Visentin has also been omitted, while there is no place in the 31-man squad for flanker Robert Barbieri, but Mauro Bergamasco will equal the World Cup record by featuring in the tournament for a fifth time.

Italy were beaten 16-12 by Scotland in their latest warm-up match ahead of the showpiece event.
