France boss Philippe Saint-Andre says that "there should be no excuses" for their poor start to the Six Nations.

France boss Philippe Saint-Andre has refused to entertain suggestions that a busy domestic schedule has contributed to their disappointing start to the Six Nations.

France have lost both of their opening two matches in the Six Nations, to Wales on Saturday and Italy on the opening weekend, making it their worst start to the tournament since 1982.

"There should be no excuses. We are in a magical competition. It is what you dream about being involved in as a player, and it is why I wanted to play rugby," he told reporters.

"The simple fact is that the Welsh were more reactive, more aggressive and they outnumbered us two to one when it came to tackling our player with the ball. They stopped us from liberating the ball, something we were very good at doing back in November.

"The calendar is due to be discussed in June by the league, the [French] federation and the players, and I hope everybody shoulders their responsibilities."

Next up for France is an away clash against England.
