Gloucester's Charlie Sharples: 'Form crucial for England recall'

Gloucester's Charlie Sharples says that form is crucial if he is ever to fight his way back into the England squad.

Gloucester Rugby's Charlie Sharples believes that he needs to be in top form in order to secure an England recall.

The 24-year-old was not picked by England coach Stuart Lancaster to join the squad for the Six Nations tournament next month.

The Hong Kong-born athlete believes that Gloucester's current form has played a part in Lancaster's decision not to select him.

"I've got belief in myself that I can be in that mix, but you have to be in form as a player and be doing that for a team that's in form," BBC Sport quotes Sharples as saying.

Sharples, who has four caps for England, last featured for the nation against Australia in 2012.
