Sam Warburton says that the entire British and Irish Lions squad are determined to earn a spot against Australia in the first Test.

British and Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton has admitted that the squad are determined to impress in order to earn their place in the side for the first Test against Australia.

The Welsh skipper's spot in the starting XV is in doubt due to a mixture of disappointing form, injuries and promising displays from others contesting the same position.

However, Warburton, who starts his second match for the tourists at the weekend against the Waratahs, believes that the entire party has a point to prove to head coach Warren Gatland.

"I think players are always trying to impress," Warburton told Sky Sports News. "It doesn't matter what game it is or when, you always want to have a good game.

"All the players naturally put pressure on themselves. Nobody is reading into anything, there is still plenty to prove and a couple of games to go so the players will try to take this opportunity."

The Lions face the Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday.
