Six Australia rugby players hit with one-game ban for boozing

Six Australia players are hit with a one-game ban for drinking "inappropriate levels of alcohol", while nine others are warned for their behaviour.

Australia coach Ewen McKenzie has confirmed that six players have been banned for one game for drinking "inappropriate levels of alcohol".

The off-field behaviour is said to have taken place three days before the Wallabies' 32-15 win over Ireland on Saturday.

"Everyone in our squad is required to comply with and adhere to high standards of ethical conduct both on and off the field," BBC Sport quotes McKenzie as saying.

"Those standards were compromised in the lead-up to Saturday's victory over Ireland with a group of players making the decision to stay out late and consume inappropriate levels of alcohol during the early hours of Wednesday morning."

Nine other players were also given warnings for their conduct.
