Tim Sheens hails "great" Australia

Australia coach Tim Sheens has described his side's showing during their Rugby League World Cup final win over New Zealand as the Kangaroos' best performance during his four-and-a-half-year reign.

Billy Slater and Brett Morris scored two tries each as the tournament favourites beat the defending champions 34-2 at Old Trafford.

"This was the best performance of my time [in charge]," Sheens told reporters.

"I'm not going to comment on others. They have been a great side and have grown old together. The seniority in the team really stood up.

"Firsts are a big thing; A first Grand Final, a first World Cup and what do you say? A terrific occasion and atmosphere at the Theatre of Dreams."

Australia scored 272 points and conceded just 24 during their six games at this year's World Cup.
