Johnathan Thurston hails Australia defence

Australia half-back Johnathan Thurston expresses his delight at his side earning their third shutout in this year's World Cup by beating Fiji 64-0.

Australia half-back Johnathan Thurston has expressed his delight at his side earning their third shutout in this year's World Cup.

The Kangaroos beat Fiji 64-0 at Wembley to book their place in next weekend's final against defending champions New Zealand at Old Trafford.

Despite scoring 11 tries, Thurston was keen to praise Australia's rearguard effort.

"We've had a lot of pride in our defence over the last few weeks," he told BBC Sport.

"We've been concentrating on our defence, Fiji threw a lot at is and we held out.

"We know the Kiwis will be tough to play against. We'll give it our best shot."

Australia have scored 238 points and conceded just 22 during their five World Cup fixtures this year.

They have now reached 13 successive World Cup finals.
