Football pundit Robbie Savage has escaped a driving ban after being stopped by police for speeding at 99mph in North Yorkshire.
Northallerton Magistrates' Court heard that the retired footballer informed a traffic officer that he was in a rush to return home to his children following a charity event hosted by Alan Shearer the night before.
Savage was clocked driving a Bentley Mulsanne at the illegal speed on a 70mph road along the A1 at around 9.15am on January 18.
According to the Northern Echo, Philip Morris, who was defending Savage, told the court that the football pundit was running late and uses his car as a "safe haven" due to the worry of being "accosted" by people on public transport.
Reports have claimed that Savage was given six penalty points on his licence for speeding and ordered to pay a £600 fine, £60 surcharge and £85 court costs.
