The Museum of Liverpool will pay their respects to the victims of the 1989 Hillsborough disaster by displaying a tribute on their outside wall.

The 96 Liverpool fans who passed away following a crush at the Hillsborough stadium at an FA Cup semi-final will be remembered as the 25th anniversary approaches.

The museum will unveil a 6ft high tribute reading 15.4.1989 to signal the date of the disaster, and will keep it on the building until April 21.

"The date 15/4/1989 is an important part of our history," the director of the Museum of Liverpool Janet Dugdale told the Liverpool Echo. "It's a date which has been marked for the past 25 years, and will continue to be marked by people not just in Liverpool, and not just by Liverpool fans, but by many people and football fans across the world."

All football matches this weekend will hold a minute's silence following a six-minute delay to their original kickoff times to mirror the 3.06pm time when the 1989 match was stopped.
