The Labour Party are reportedly keen to get Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher to join their campaign following his retirement.

The Labour Party are reportedly keen to enlist the help of Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

The 35-year-old, who will hang up his boots at the end of the season, has been tipped for TV punditry or management.

It appears that politics could be a viable option due to the centre-back's links with ex-Cabinet minister Andy Burnham, who helped expose the lies surrounding the Hillsborough tragedy last year.

"Jamie is a big Labour backer," the Daily Mail quotes a Labour source as saying. "[Leader] Ed Miliband and the party are very keen to get him involved as someone who will endorse Labour in the run-up to the next general election."

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Sky Sports are eager to sign up the former England international.
