Everton to host charity game at Goodison Park in memory of Bradley Lowery

Everton announce that they will host a charity football match at Goodison Park this September in memory of young Bradley Lowery.

Everton have announced that Goodison Park will stage a charity football game in memory of young Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery.

The six-year-old became a well-loved face across the country during his fight against neuroblastoma, which he tragically lost on July 7.

As well as raising awareness of the disease, the youngster struck up a close friendship with former Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, who now plays for Bournemouth.

Despite being a Sunderland fan, Bradley made an impression at Everton when he acted as mascot for his beloved club against the Toffees in September last year, and he was later a guest at Goodison in January and February.

The Merseyside outfit have teamed up with the Lowery family, the Bradley Lowery Foundation and celebrity football organiser Sellebrity Soccer.

Bradley's mother Gemma Lowery said: "I appreciate Sellebrity Soccer putting in the hard work to get the football match arranged to raise funds for the Bradley Lowery Foundation. As always, Everton has been amazing in letting it happen at Goodison Park. The support is fantastic."

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright said: "There's little that I could ever add to the tributes to Bradley, that have already been fulsome throughout the world of football, and onwards. I didn't know him for long, but from the second he walked out onto the pitch with his beloved Sunderland Football Club against us, I felt an overwhelming "Blue" need to support him. Farhad and my Everton colleagues immediately supported that need.

"Everyone at Everton feels honoured to support this match to celebrate the short life of one of football's all-time greats. There's Only One Bradley Lowery."

The match, which will feature a number of celebrities, will be played on Sunday, September 3.
