Singer Alesha Dixon hits back at critics who slammed her performance of the national anthem at the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

Singer Alesha Dixon has hit back at viewers who criticised her rendition of the national anthem at Silverstone ahead of the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 36-year-old, who also works as a judge on ITV's Britain's Got Talent, received bad reviews when she changed 'God Save the Queen' to 'God Save our Queen'.

Dixon was also criticised for singing in an American accent, but the popstar defended herself by claiming that she sang with "soul".

According to ITV News, in a tweet which has since been deleted, Dixon wrote: "FYI it's not an American accent....It's called Soul!!! #GrandPrix #happs!

"There's a difference between getting the words wrong and choosing 2 sing a particular version! Boring story, very sad! #don'tp*sssonmyparade."

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton went on to win the race ahead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg.
