Mark Webber on pole position for Japanese Grand Prix

Red Bull driver Mark Webber qualifies for the Japanese Grand Prix in pole position ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel.

Red Bull driver Mark Webber has taken the pole position for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.

The 37-year-old Australian came ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel in qualifying on Saturday, while Lewis Hamilton will start the race for Mercedes in third place.

Webber was 0.174 seconds quicker than Vettel, who suffered a Kers power-boost system failure that cost him around 0.3s a lap.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso finished the qualifying session in a disappointing eighth place, with Romain Grosjean, Felipe Massa, Nico Rosberg and Nico Hulkenberg all ahead of him.
