Lewis Hamilton: "I'm in my element right now"

Lewis Hamilton says that he is improving year by year and is currently at the peak of his powers heading into the United States Grand Prix this weekend.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has claimed that he is at the peak of his career on the eve of the United States Grand Prix.

The Englishman heads into this weekend's race with a third world title within touching distance after taking 11 pole positions from 15 races.

Hamilton could secure back-to-back crowns if things go his way in Texas on Sunday, and he admits to being in peak condition on the back of an impressive season so far.

"I really do feel like I'm in my element right now," he told ESPN. "You'd hope that I am in my best place because you are supposed to grow every year and learn every year.

"A Formula One car should be the best it's been through its lifespan at any given point and I should also be better as a driver now than I ever have been, and I am.

"All round, in terms of my outside attitude, how I approach work, it seems to work. I arrive [at the track] and it's not easy, but it's enjoyable. I have a new love for it now."

Sebastian Vettel remains Hamilton's closest challenger to claim top spot, although the Mercedes man can kill off his rival by opening up a nine-point advantage on Sunday.
