Lewis Hamilton keeps title hopes alive with victory at Mexican Grand Prix

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton keeps his title hopes alive by winning the Mexican Grand Prix, with teammate Nico Rosberg taking second place.

Lewis Hamilton has kept his title hopes alive by finishing ahead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg at the Mexican Grand Prix.

The British driver looked to have made another costly slow start when he ran wide at the first corner after locking a front tyre, but he survived that scare and was otherwise untroubled.

A 51st career win for Hamilton leaves him 19 points adrift of Rosberg with a total of 50 available in the final two races, though the current pacesetter knows that he can also finish second in both Brazil and Abu Dhabi and still win the title.

Rosberg had a scare of his own in front of the 120,000 watching spectators in Mexico City, but the only real drama came at the end of the race when Red Bull's Max Verstappen dived down the inside into Turn Four, only to stop late and run wide.

Verstappen slid across the track which allowed Rosberg to ensure that second place was his, with the two men later exchanging words following a race largely devoid of any other real drama.
