Lewis Hamilton fastest in Italian Grand Prix first practice

Lewis Hamilton finishes almost half a second clear of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg in first practice for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

World championship leader Lewis Hamilton posted the fastest time of first practice at the Italian Grand Prix this morning.

The Mercedes driver went round the Monza circuit in 1:24.670, 0.463s quicker than teammate Nico Rosberg.

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was third but over a second-and-a-half behind Hamilton, while the Force Indias of Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez completed the top five.

The struggling McLarens of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button will get 10 and five-place grid penalties respectively in Sunday's race for changing their engines, and it seems that they will be starting at the back of the grid as they were 17th and 18th fastest in this morning's practice.
