Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has revealed that Lewis Hamilton decided to opt for slower soft tyres for the final part of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Briton was looking to gain an advantage on teammate Nico Rosberg and asked his engineers if he could run to the end by prolonging his second set.
Hamilton stopped with 13 laps left and Wolff has claimed that it was Lewis who decided against the faster super-softs.
He told BBC Sport: "We gave Lewis the option to choose which tyre he wanted on the car at the last pit stop.
"Even though the car was light, it wouldn't have lasted to the end with options.
"We wanted to give him a shot at the win at the end but the pace wasn't there today."
Rosberg eventually took victory - his third win in as many races.
