Sebatian Vettel: 'Fifth place was the best we could do'

Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel admits that his fifth-place finish in the Canadian Grand Prix was the best he could do after a penalty pushed him down the starting grid.

Sebastian Vettel has conceded that his fifth-place finish in the Canadian Grand Prix was the best he could do after starting 18th on the grid.

The German endured engine difficulty during practice and was also given a five-place penalty on the grid for illegal overtaking after the final practice session.

However, the Ferrari driver produced an excellent display in the race in Montreal as he moved through field to finish in fifth.

"It was the best we could do. It's a bit of a shame obviously because especially around here it's a very nice podium and I think, without the penalty, I could have had a shot," Vettel told Sky Sports News.

"But would, could, should doesn't really matter. That's life and it was a good recovery.

"I was very happy with the car, especially towards the end, the pace just kept coming and it was getting quicker and quicker."

Vettel is currently third in the drivers' championship, 43 points behind leader Lewis Hamilton.
