Wolfsburg forward Ivan Perisic expected to miss start of season

Wolfsburg forward Ivan Perisic is expected to miss the start of the season with a fractured shoulder.

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has revealed that forward Ivan Perisic could miss the start of the season through injury.

The 25-year-old fractured his shoulder on Sunday during his side's defeat to Bayern Munich in the Telekom Cup.

Perisic is now due to undergo surgery to fix the problem ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.

"These injuries are very unfortunate for us, but we have a wide squad with which we have to compensate for these losses now," Allofs told the club's official website.

"The important thing is that the healing process with each individual runs optimally and players can return to the team as quickly as possible."

Wolfsburg play their first match of the new Bundesliga season away to champions Bayern on August 22.
