Harry Redknapp backs Tottenham Hotspur for Champions League push

QPR boss Harry Redknapp backs former team Tottenham to push for a Champions League spot under new manager Tim Sherwood.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has expressed his belief that Tottenham Hotspur will still challenge for a top-four spot this season.

Spurs currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and six behind joint-league leaders Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, Redknapp believes that new manager Tim Sherwood - whom he brought to the club as a coach during his spell in charge - will help Spurs close the gap and launch a serious challenge for a Champions League place.

"I thought Tottenham were absolute certainties to finish above Arsenal at the start of the season," Redknapp told talkSPORT.

"Then Arsenal lost their first game of the season, but they have done fantastic since then. But they are only six points above Tottenham. That's nothing. That can be wiped out in a week, so Tottenham are still bang in there.

"They have a good squad. I think Tim will get the best out of them. I wouldn't write Tottenham off for a top-four position, they have got as good a chance as the seven teams that will be scrapping it out until the end of the season."

Spurs face West Brom on Boxing Day in Sherwood's first match since taking permanent control of the club.
