Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou sets a new Premier League record for the most points earned by a manager in their first nine matches in the competition.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has set a new Premier League record for the best-ever start to a managerial reign in the competition.

The Australian arrived in North London this summer following a trophy-laden spell with Celtic and has enjoyed an unbeaten start to life in the Premier League so far.

Spurs have won seven and drawn two of their nine top-flight outings to date, leaving them top of the table and two points ahead of closest challengers Manchester City and Arsenal.

Monday night's 2-0 win over Fulham, courtesy of goals from Son Heung-min and James Maddison, continued Postecoglou's dream start as he surpassed the previous highest points tally for a new manager after nine games in the competition.

Chelsea's Guus Hiddink and Norwich City's Mike Walker both accrued 22 points from their first nine games as a manager in the Premier League, whereas Postecoglou now has 23 points to his name for Tottenham.

Spurs are only the eighth team to have amassed at least 23 points from their opening nine games of a Premier League season, with four of the previous seven going on to win the title.

Two of those teams have finished second, while one has finished third, meaning that no team has made such a good start to a campaign and gone on to miss out on a top-four spot.

Despite those encouraging numbers, Postecoglou was not entirely happy with his side's performance against Fulham, claiming that the second half was the "worst 45 minutes" of his tenure so far.

Spurs are back in action again on Friday night, when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park knowing that victory would temporarily send them five points clear.
