Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has thanked manager Andre Villas-Boas for the faith that he has shown in him this season.

Defoe has scored 13 goals in 25 games this season to help lift Spurs up to fourth place in the Premier League table as well as into the last 32 of the Europa League.

"The new manager has come in and he has shown great faith in me," said the England international.

"He said to me from the beginning, 'I want you to stay at the club, I know you will score goals'. It has been fantastic. I have got my chances, I have scored goals."

Spurs were drawn against French club Lyon in the knockout stages of the Europa League on Thursday.
