Republic of Ireland talisman Robbie Keane is passed fit to travel to the Faroe Islands ahead of Tuesday's must-win World Cup qualifier.

Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has been declared fit to play in Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands.

Keane was forced to sit out Ireland's 6-1 defeat at the hands of Germany on Friday with a persistent Achilles problem.

The Los Angeles Galaxy forward trained on Sunday and the Football Association of Ireland have confirmed that Keane has flown out to Torshavn with the first-team squad.

A spokesman for the FAI said: "Following training this morning in Gannon Park, Robbie Keane has been ruled fit to travel with the squad for Tuesday's match against the Faroe Islands."

Giovanni Trapattoni's side are under pressure to bounce back with a positive result against the Faroes, and the Italian has admitted that Tuesday's match is a must-win game.
