Jobi McAnuff: 'Reading released me due to age'

Jobi McAnuff believes that his age was the major factor in Reading's decision to release him.

Jobi McAnuff has claimed that his age was the reason for his release from Reading.

The 32-year-old, who spent five years at the Madejski Stadium, admits that he will be looking for a new club as quickly as possible after being shown the exit door by the club.

When asked if his age was the main factor in his departure, McAnuff told the Reading Post: "I don't know what the club's situation is financially, but looking at the ones let go, [age] has to have a bearing on it.

"In this day and age you can have all the stats, but unfortunately it's one of the things you come up against.

"So it's a new situation for me and hopefully I can get something sorted out sooner rather than later."

Experienced trio Kaspars Gorkss, Mikele Leigertwood and Stuart Taylor were also released by Reading.
