Steve Clarke: 'We were not ruthless enough'

Reading boss Steve Clarke believes that his side were not ruthless enough in their 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

Reading boss Steve Clarke has lamented his side's lack of a clinical edge in front of goal in their 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals had the best opportunities in the first half, but were unable to take the lead as Simon Cox, Garath McCleary and Pavel Pogrebnyak all spurned openings.

Clarke's men were made to pay as Forest put them to the sword in the second half as goals from Ben Osborn, Matty Fryatt and Gary Gardner secured them the three points.

He told the club's official website: "I thought first half we were really good, as well as we've played for a long time. We had a good control of the game, created two really good chances to score but didn't take them and suffered for it in the second half.

"We're not a team who creates a lot of chances, so when they come we have to be clinical. At 1-0 we had another good chance to equalise.

"We keep getting into good goalscoring positions but at the moment it doesn't look like we're going to score any goals and that is a big concern for us."

Reading are 18th in the Championship table, nine points clear of the relegation zone.
