Mark Warburton to replace Stuart McCall as Rangers manager?

Rangers make contact with former Brentford boss Mark Warburton over the possibility of taking over as manager next season, according to a report.

Rangers have reportedly sounded out Mark Warburton over the possibility of taking over as manager next season.

The 52-year-old will leave Brentford following their unsuccessful Championship playoff bid, which ended in the semi-finals with a 5-1 aggregate defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough.

Warburton will be looking for a new club this summer following Brentford's surprising decision to part ways with him and adopt a new managerial structure.

Stuart McCall replaced caretaker Kenny McDowall at Ibrox in March, with the remit of getting Rangers promoted from the Scottish Championship.

McCall is said to be hopeful of landing the job on a permanent basis and will enhance his claims should he see off Queen of the South in Sunday's Premiership playoff quarter-final second leg.

Former Rangers defender David Weir was Warburton's assistant at Brentford, which could help to facilitate a switch to Ibrox.

According to the Daily Mail, Warburton and Weir have been receptive to Rangers's initial advances and would be willing to formally discuss moving their partnership to Glasgow.

Warburton guided Brentford to promotion from League One last season before taking them into the playoffs this term.
