Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce cancels players' day off after Norwich loss

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce cancels his team's day off following their 3-1 defeat away to Norwich City on Saturday, ordering them in for additional training.

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has cancelled his team's day off after their 3-1 defeat away to Norwich City on Saturday.

Jonjo Shelvey's injury-time goal was little more than a scant consolation as the Magpies fell to their second successive Premier League defeat thanks to Teemu Pukki's hat-trick.

After the game, Bruce said: "We were nowhere near good enough and it was a disappointing afternoon with and without the ball."

The Newcastle Chronicle reports that the former Sheffield Wednesday boss held a post-game inquest on the flight back from East Anglia before ordering his players to cancel their day off and report for training today.

Newcastle return to action next Sunday as they travel to take on Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham Hotspur.
