Middlesbrough 'play down Ross McCormack reports'

Middlesbrough reportedly refute speculation that they are on the verge of signing Ross McCormack from Fulham.

Middlesbrough have reportedly played down speculation that they are on the verge of signing Fulham striker Ross McCormack.

McCormack has been linked with a move to the Riverside in recent weeks as Boro look to improve their squad in a bid to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Fulham are thought to be interested in cashing in on the striker, who arrived at Craven Cottage from Leeds United for £11m in 2014 - a record fee between clubs outside the top flight.

Boro have held a long-standing interest in the Scotland international, and recent reports suggested that they had agreed a fee and personal terms ahead of a January move.

However, Gazette Live claims that senior club sources at the Riverside have dismissed those rumours, insisting that they are happy with their current squad and would only consider a move should McCormack become available at a good price.

Fulham have struggled so far this season, sitting 19th in the table and only six points clear of the relegation zone despite McCormack weighing in with 13 league goals.

In contrast, Middlesbrough currently sit top of the standings, four points clear with a game in hand.
