Raphael Varane is reportedly undergoing the first part of his medical ahead of a summer transfer to Manchester United from Real Madrid.

The Red Devils reached an agreement with Los Blancos last month to sign the France centre-back for around £41m plus add-ons.

According to Sky Sports News, the 28-year-old arrived in Manchester last week before going through a period of quarantine, with United hoping to finalise the signing in the next 24-48 hours.

United would also like to have Varane involved in full training ahead of their Premier League opener against Leeds United on Saturday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been keen to recruit a central defender this summer and identified Varane as his primary target.

The Frenchman is set to become United's third summer signing, following the arrival of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73m as well as goalkeeper Tom Heaton, who joined on a free transfer.

Varane has spent 10 years at the Santiago Bernabeu, recording 360 appearances and winning 18 major trophies, including four Champions League titles.
