Valencia are allegedly prepared to bring Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata back to the club on a free transfer in the summer window.

According to the Daily Star, Mata, whose contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, is understood to be a target for the Spanish side.

The 29-year-old has the option to stay in Manchester for another season if United choose to activate the one-year extension under his current deal.

The newspaper says, however, that the club are unwilling to activate the clause, meaning that Mata could be a free agent at the end of the season.

The Spaniard spent four seasons with Valencia before moving to Chelsea for £23.5m in 2011, then heading north in 2014 for £37.1m.
