Manchester United reportedly line up a January move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

Manchester United are reportedly preparing a January move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

The 23-year-old was linked with a switch to Bayern Munich over the summer before ultimately signing a new contract at the Red Bull Arena.

There remains widespread speculation surrounding the Germany international's future, though, and Liverpool have recently been credited with an interest.

According to The Mirror, however, United are ready to swoop for the forward, who has a buy-out clause of just £27m inserted into his current deal with Leipzig.

The report claims that the Red Devils are determined to beat Liverpool to Werner's signature, and the club feel that the promise of regular starts will give them the edge over Jurgen Klopp's side.

The German has scored 13 times in 15 appearances for Julian Nagelsmann's team this season, including three goals in Saturday's 8-0 win over Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga.

United's problems in the final third of the field were once again on display on Saturday afternoon as they suffered a 1-0 loss at Bournemouth.
