James Wilson signs new Manchester United deal

Manchester United striker James Wilson signs a new four-year deal at the club.

Manchester United striker James Wilson has signed a new four-year deal at the club, with an option for an additional fifth season.

Louis van Gaal told reporters earlier on Friday that he would wait until December to make a decision on whether he would allow the 19-year-old to leave the club on loan, and the Red Devils have now moved to tie the England Under-21s international's future to Old Trafford.

The Dutch boss highlighted Wilson's future potential upon the striker signing the contract, telling the club's website: "James is one of the brightest young English prospects and we are delighted that he has signed a new contract.

"He is a very talented forward player and has a keen eye for goal. His development is continuing in the right direction and it is clear to see that he has a fine future ahead of him."

Wilson himself told the club's website: "I have been at United since I was seven years old and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far.

"Growing up at the club has been an incredible experience and I feel it stands me in good stead for continuing my development as a Manchester United player. I am delighted to have signed a new contract and look forward to playing a part in the team for many years to come."

Wilson has scored four goals in 18 appearances for the club since making his senior debut in May 2014, although he is yet to feature in competitive action this season.
