Pep Guardiola says that he and Jose Mourinho share an obsession to win trophies, as the two men prepare to lock horns in the Manchester derby this weekend.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that he and Jose Mourinho 'are like twins' due to their shared obsession of winning silverware.

The two men resume their rivalry at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon when City take on Manchester United in a top-of-the-table showdown.

Guardiola and Mourinho have not always seen eye to eye, particularly when they crossed paths during their time in charge of Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively, but the Catalan coach says they are more alike than many imagine.

Asked if Mourinho is equally determined to lift titles, Guardiola told reporters: "Definitely. In that we are twins. He wants to win trophies, I want to win trophies.

"Antonio Conte as well and Jurgen [Klopp] and Mauricio [Pochettino]. We love to compete, we love to win games but believe me it's not a special occasion when we beat Mourinho teams. We've faced each other many times in big moments.

"I know the way we see the game is different because it's normal. I never criticise my colleagues the way they play. Every manager plays the way they play. At the end of the result, I will respect my colleague. He knows, I know that we want to beat each other."

Guardiola leads Mourinho by eight wins to four from their previous 19 encounters.
