Gael Clichy counting on Manchester United to drop points

Gael Clichy believes that Manchester United could become nervous if they start to drop points in the final stretch of the season.

Manchester City full-back Gael Clichy believes that Manchester United could stumble during the final stretch of the Premier League season.

The blue half of Manchester are 12 points behind their arch rivals in the title race, which they managed to win last season in dramatic fashion.

The North-West outfit were eight points behind the Red Devils with six games left to play, but were able to snatch the trophy in the dying seconds of the campaign against Queens Park Rangers.

"If you look at the scenario, it is actually not that much different from last season – eight points behind with six games to go last year, 12 behind with ten to play this time around," the Manchester Evening News quotes Clichy as saying.

"If United don't make mistakes, they will win the title, but everyone is saying United have to lose four games. That's not true, If they draw a few matches we can make up points in that way.

"It's easier to be 12 points ahead because if you draw one and then lose one you still have a good lead. But one bad result can become two and then the doubts creep in. You ask yourself, 'Is it going to be the same as last season?'"

City travel to Everton this Saturday, while United face Reading at Old Trafford.
